Thomas Denholm father of William Jackson Denholm

I am in need of some help.  My Great Grandfather, William Jackson Denholm, was born in Charlestown, Fifeshire (according to his death certificate) in 1836 or 7.  I have found him in the 1841 census, living in the High Street, Inverkeithing.  His father was Thomas and he was a boat builder.  Thomas must have died between 1841 and 1851 because I can't find him in the 1851 census.  According to the family, he died in some sort of accident.  A cousin was recently over in Scotland and found that the church down the road from the house is now a preschool and she didn't have any time left to search any further.  Can anyone please help me find out about Thomas Denholm?
