4/6/2009High school boys sparkle in top football finals
Inverkeithing High's under 13s team, with representatives of event sponsors Coca Cola
Inverkeithing High School's young footballers took on Scotland's best last week, as they competed in the finals of the Coca Cola 7s - Scotland's top schools' football competition.
Having fought through three qualifying rounds to reach the finals at Hearts' Tynecastle ground, the under 13 boys side started with a 1-0 win over Fraserburgh Academy in the group stages, before defeats to Holyrood and Prestwick halted their progress.
Reaching the finals was a great achievement for the team, in a tournament where more than 7,500 young players took part in both the boys' and girls' competitions.
Coca Cola 7s coach, and former Hearts and Scotland player Gary MacKay said: "I have seen some outstanding natural ability and with the right guidance several of the players have the potential to be professionals. Throughout the competition Prestwick Academy have shown determination and skill and they deserve to lift the trophy."
Congratulations to the Inverkeithing boys! Post congratulations and messages here on s1inverkeithing
