Inverkeithing Children's Gala - cancelled!

by Helen Cullen

It is with great regret that the Committee of Inverkeithing Children's Gala have decided to cancel the Gala for this year 2009. This is due to lack of financial and public support.

Although this is regretful for this year it is hoped that the Committee will be in a position next year 2010 to hold the Gala, provided the financial and public support is forthcoming.

The Committee would like to thank all the members of the public and local businesses for their support in the past and hope that this support will be in place for the future.

Those of us who are born & bred in Inverkeithing will be really disappointed in the decision to cancel this old tradition, the incomers to the town, be it business or personal, do not realise the significance of this once a year event. I am disgusted at the lack of support from the community in both business and personal capacity. You should be ashamed!! the next time there is a collection please put your hand in your pocket!

As an incomer I resent M.Simpsons comments My children were brought up in Inverkeithing and enjoyed the Gala with all the others. The lack of support in the community is as much those where BORN & BRED as the so called INCOMERS and comments like yours only serve to devide and not encourage people to want to be part of the community

You should all be ashamed of yourselfs and stop bickering.

Act now and get these traditions reinstated, or alas lose them forever.

PS - I live in kirkcaldy.

APATHY IS ALWAYS RIFE,THE FEW WHO ORGANIZE ARE ALWAYS UNAPPRECIATED AND THE LACK OF PUBLIC SUPPORT FROM ALL QUARTERS MAKES THEM WONDER WHY THEY BOTHER. SEEN THIS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, AND WE WONDER WHY KIDS HANG ABOUT ON STREET CORNERS WITH NOTHING TO DO AND ARE OVERWEIGHT AND LACK SOCAIL SKILLS. THE COUNCIL AND GOVERNMENT CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH,IT TAKES COMMITMENT AT GROUND LEVEL TO MAKE THESE EVENTS HAPPEN AND CONTINUE AN OLD TRADITION. HOPEFULLY EVERYONE WILL WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE 2010 GALA A SUCCESS!

As an incomer, I'm not too fussed about losing the Gala, the thought of kids hiding at the bottom of the lane getting drunk before staggering to the "shows" and then people staggering past my house shouting and fighting at 2am as in the past few years makes me quite happy.

Ian Campbell says

I think that Lammas Fair(the shows) and The childrens Gala are two totally separate events held at entirely different times of the year, have little to do with the ne'erdowells that you refer to, Who in all likelyhood are freqenting the same spot every weekend.

The high street establishments are closed by 1-00 am anywhere in Inverkeithing can be reached on foot within 15 minutes from the High street. I do not see the conection with either the games or the Gala being the problem, More a weekly ocurrence try calling the police as good citizen should.

Make more of an effort to be a member of the community.
