Police continue to tackle Inverkeithing community concerns on alcohol behaviour
Community officers in Inverkeithing continued to tackle alcohol-related antisocial behaviour on Friday, as part of a scheme to create safer communities in West Fife.
Just a few weeks ago, s1inverkeithing reported that community cops in the area had been tackling local concerns raised during the Community Engagement process with a weekend of action.
This time, local community officers delivered a dedicated plan in response to issues raised by members of the public at the last round of community engagement meetings.
The action involved community officers and special constables conducting high visibility foot patrols in identified areas of concern - in Inverkeithing and Dalgety Bay - tasked with engaging with residents, licensed traders and the general public.
During the action plan, 37 litres of alcohol was seized and three people were charged in relation to consumption of alcohol in a public place.
Local community sergeant Jonathan Peebles said that the coming weeks will see other techniques used to combat alcohol-related antisocial behaviour and warned those involved in such behaviour to be aware because “we will we catch you.”
He said: “The availability of alcohol to young people is an issue and test purchase is one method of identifying irresponsible traders thereby reducing the availability of alcohol.
"This activity was conducted in direct response to issues raised by members of the public through the Community Engagement Model process and is another example of our commitment to Taking Policing Closer to the Community.
"This action plan follows on from the recent test purchase operation when every off-licence in Inverkeithing and Dalgety Bay was tested, one shop failing in the process.
“We are determined in our efforts to address alcohol related antisocial behaviour in our communities and will continue to use a variety of means to do so.
"Community engagement continues to prove successful in South West Fife with members of the public identifying policing priorities for our local communities and local officers taking direct action in response.
“I encourage people to come to the next round of meetings, even if they do not have an issue to raise and get involved in influencing local policing."
The next Community Engagement meeting for the Inverkeithing area will be held at Inverkeithing High School at 7:pm on Tuesday, November, 8.
