Police launch festive campaign in Inverkeithing

Community officers in Inverkeithing have been conductnig a variety of local activities under the South West Fife Festive Safety Campaign.

During the weekend of action on 10th-11th December, local officers conducted 12 hours of high visibility foot patrol in identified areas of concern and conducted 16 visits to on-sales licensed premises. During these patrols officers engaged with licensees, patrons, local residents and the public creating a safer festive environment.

Part of the weekend of action saw officers conduct a test-purchase operation where all off-licences in Dalgety Bay were tested. Four passed and one failed.

Community Sergeant Jonathan Peebles, said: "During the Festive Safety Campaign we are continuing to take policing closer to the community through a range of dedicated local activities. This initiative helps ensure a safe and enjoyable festive period for our communities and I am pleased to say that the vast majority of people we spoke with during the weekend were enjoying the festivities responsibly.

“Unfortunately, one off-licence in the area failed the test-purchase operation and two people have been charged with offences under the Licensing (Scotland) Act. This should serve as a timely reminder to people involved in the licensed trade not to become complacent when it comes to the sale of alcohol"

In response to concerns raised by members of the public through the Community Engagement Model (CEM) process, community officers conducted a number of speed detection deployments across the area. A number of drivers were stopped and given advice in relation to winter road safety although no speeding offences were detected.

Sergeant Peebles added:"Policing the roads forms part of our Festive Safety Campaign and also directly addresses issues raised through the CEM process. I would encourage all motorists to drive with extra caution during this period to help keep all road users as safe as possible. The next CEM meetings take place early in the new year and I am keen to see a large representation from our communities to help influence local policing priorities."

The next community engagement meetings in the area will be held on Tuesday 10th January 2012 at Inverkeithing High School at 7pm and Wednesday 11th January 2012 at Dalgety Bay Parish Church at 7pm.
