Weekend of action brings police success in Inverkeithing
5 OctoberA weekend of Community Engagement by local police in Inverkeithing led to reductions in antisocial behaviour as police targeted problem areas.
In response to local issues raised by members of the public at the latest round of Community Engagement Meetings (CEM), community officers based in Inverkeithing have been involved in a range of activities geared towards tackling alcohol related antisocial behaviour in the area.
On Friday, 30th September, local community officers assisted by members of the Special Constabulary conducted a variety of high visibility and plain-clothes patrols in identified problem areas and also utilised 'Domehawk' CCTV cameras in an effort to address instances of antisocial behaviour. During the operation officers engaged with local youths, residents and licensed traders providing a reassuring presence and offering advice on alcohol related issues.
The operation saw a significant reduction in typical instances of antisocial behaviour in the affected areas with no calls received from members of the public. A quantity of alcohol was seized and two persons were charged in connection with consuming alcohol in a public place.
On Saturday 1st October, coinciding with the commencement of The Scottish Government 'Challenge 25' policy, local community officers executed a test purchase operation whereby all off-licence premises in Inverkeithing were tested. All premises passed with members of staff robustly challenging age and requesting suitable identification.
Local Community Sergeant Jonathan Peebles, said: "These are just some of the tactics employed to tackle the menace of alcohol related antisocial behaviour in our communities. I am pleased to find that all traders in Inverkeithing acted responsibly and in accordance with the law during the test purchase phase. Antisocial behaviour is a priority for Fife Constabulary and, through the Community Engagement Model process, we are Taking Policing Closer to our Community, directly responding to local issues."
The next Community Engagement meeting for the Inverkeithing area will be held at Inverkeithing High School on Tuesday 8th November at 7pm.
Sergeant Peebles, added: "The Community Engagement process is an excellent opportunity for local residents to directly influence neighbourhood policing. Have your say by coming along to your local meeting and help shape local policing priorities."
